Abstract A series of [1,2]Oxazolo [5,4- e ]isoindoles has been synthesized through a versatile and high yielding sequence. All the new structures showed in the 1 HNMR spectra, the typical signal in the 8.34–8.47 ppm attributable to the H-3 of the [1,2]oxazole moiety. Among all derivatives, methoxy benzyl substituents at positions 3 and 4 or/and 5 were very effective in reducing the growth of different tumor cell lines, including diffuse malignant peritoneal mesothelioma (DMPM), an uncommon and rapidly malignancy poorly responsive to available therapeutic options. The complete repair of the mucosa constitutes a key goal in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) treatment. The Wnt signaling pathway mediates mucosal repair and M2 macrophages that coordinate efficient healing have been related to Wnt ligand expression. Signal transducer and activator of transcription 6 (STAT6) mediates M2 polarization in vitro and we hypothesize that a STAT6-dependent macrophage phenotype mediates mucosal repair in acute murine colitis by activating the Wnt signaling pathway. The link between the extensive usage of calcineurin (CN) inhibitors cyclosporin A and tacrolimus (FK506) in transplantation medicine and the increasing rate of opportunistic infections within this segment of patients is alarming. In this study, the role of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) in the inflammatory response elicited by zymosan in the mouse air pouch model has been examined. This response is characterized by a time-dependent increase in HO-1 expression in the leukocytes migrating into the exudates. At 24–48 h maximal HO-1 expression was accompanied by reduced cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and nitric oxide synthase-2 (NOS-2) expression as well as low levels of inflammatory mediators. Hemin administration into the air pouch caused an elevation of HO-1 protein and bilirubin levels induced by zymosan with inhibition of COX-2 expression. We analyse the results in a series of patients treated in our centre. Material and methods Retrospective study of patients operated on for appendiceal peritoneal carcinomatosis from January 2012 to May 2015. Results Twenty-seven consecutive patients were included. Some previous studies have documented an increase in lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] levels in renal diseases. Here, we report data in subjects with end-stage renal failure treated with hemodialysis (HD) or with continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and in renal transplant recipients (RTR), compared with a group of normolipidemic controls (C). Lp(a) levels were significantly increased in HD and CAPD patients in comparison with C, while they were only slightly increased in RTR. Both HD and CAPD patients showed Lp(a) levels higher than in RTR, but no difference was found between the subjects of the two dialysis procedures. Abstract The discovery of rhamnose-binding lectins (RBLs) in teleost fish eggs led to the identification of a novel lectin family characterized by a unique sequence motif and a structural fold, and initially proposed to modulate fertilization.
